About GK-12

The National Science Foundation's Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) Program supports teaching fellowships for graduate students in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) disciplines. The GK-12 Program is a collaboration of three school districts: the Boston Public Schools (Harbor, McCormack, Woodrow Wilson, Lewis, and Gavin Middle Schools), the Milton Public Schools (Pierce Middle School), and the Dedham Public Schools (Dedham Middle School).

The Neponset River watershed, which encompasses the participating school districts and UMass Boston, will provide a common theme for content classes and field/laboratory modules covering both fundamental concepts in biological diversity and in physical sciences. In addition, modules will contain mathematics skills that complement the curriculum requirements. School district curriculum coordinators will participate to adapt lessons and modules into the schools' long-term plans.
