Joe Smith
Graduate Program: Ph.D. in Environmental, Coastal and Ocean Sciences Not available My research focuses on using radiochemical, biogeochemical, and stable isotope tracers to study short-to-medium term particle and contaminant dynamics in coastal marine systems. This includes investigating the sources of materials in coastal systems and how physical, chemical, and biological processes interact on different spatial and temporal scales to determine fate of these materials. Other research areas that I am interested in include: 1) Runoff, wastewater, and stormwater source contaminant introduction and d ynamics in urbanized estuaries; 2) Methane hydrate formation and destabilization; 3) Human population growth, land use, and anthopogenic perturbation of coastal marine systems; and 4) Climate change and its effects on the global carbon cycle. |
