Personal Interests

I really enjoy spending time outdoors, especially in Ocean City, NJ. I relish the early mornings and late afternoons there, when I can run on the beach and not worry about knocking over a sandcastle or falling into a child’s deep hole. A few years ago, I took up ocean kayaking, which is great until the dolphins sneak up on you and pretend to be sharks! Also, I’ve recently discovered cooking, so I’m trying to become the best vegetarian cook that I can.

Research Interests

I am interested in how students learn science. Currently, I am studying whether students can improve their science process skills by investigating a phenomenon during inquiry-based labs. My model for inquiry-based labs is the red and white yeast lab, in which students are asked to hypothesize, test, and explain why yeast forms a patch with a red center and white edge.
